Making Traditional Wooden Planes The book is okay but lacks a more in depth explanation and the diagrams are not as precise as they should be.

I'm familiar with the workings of a plane and still had to concentrate on the topic and work on visualization of the planes in my mind carefully/5(31). A comprehensive reference that has been called "a wooden plane book of clarity and imagination so influential it virtually defines its subject," this book describes, illustrates, and classifies all types of wooden planes from the common to the rare and unusual -- tracing their development and explaining their use.4/5.

After reading his book and following through the construction of the smooth plane he describes, you will have the knowledge necessary to _look_ at other plane designs and reproduce them/5(19).

Author and woodworking instructor Scott Wynn has been working with this versatile tool for four decades. In Traditional Wooden Handplanes he shows you how to make, modify, restore, and use antique planes.

Scott reveals how traditional wood planes work, how to set up a flea market find, and how to tune up a new plane for peak performance/5(11). It’s a good book for understanding wooden planes in general, and making the Krenov’s in particular.

I might be a little biased but I think it’s worth the effort. Good luck which ever way you go. Reply. Richard says. Febru at pm. They’re certainly much bulkier.
